Documentaries
Details are scarce, as they say, about The Valley (Three, Monday, 9.30pm), a documentary made in association with Fairfax’s investigative team, Stuff Circuit.
The team includes former TV3 reporters Paula Penfold and Eugene Bingham, who were let go in the great TV3 fire sale of 2015, which saw the end of Campbell Live and 3D.
Since then, Penfold and Bingham have been doing terrific work on investigations into the death of a Down syndrome child at Gloriavale and a number of crime stories related to Malcolm Rewa and the wrongly convicted Teina Pora.
With The Valley, it appears they have been following in Nicky Hager and Jon Stephenson’s footsteps to uncover the stories of two battles in Afghanistan that involved the New Zealand military.
Diana: Her Story (Prime, Wednesday, 8.30pm), which screened as Diana: In Her Own Words in the UK, was controversial up until the most revealing information was published by newspapers anyway. Consequently, the recordings made while the Princess of Wales was with her voice
coach don’t reveal anything particularly new about the princess.
The royal fascination continues with The Other Prince William (Living, Sky 017, Sunday, 8.30pm), a doco about the Queen’s cousin, Prince William of Gloucester, who fits to a tee the description “playboy prince”. Former girlfriend Zsuzsi Starkloff discusses their relationship, which put the wind up the royal family.
