Documentaries
Let’s put aside the tawdry world of politics, for a week at least, and concentrate on matters of beauty and luxury. Two-part documentary Inside Dior (Vibe, Sky 006, Sunday, 9.30pm), which coincides with New Zealand Fashion Week, looks at the famous Paris fashion house in its 70th year and the announcement of its new creative director.
It’s a world that possibly not even the 1% inhabit – the .25%, perhaps. Director Michael Waldman gained access to a banquet at Christian Dior’s mansion in the South of France where the guest of honour is “brand
ambassador” and the face of one of the company’s perfumes, Charlize Theron.
Waldman is behind the scenes at a catwalk show at Blenheim Palace, which had been the site of fashion shows in 1954 and 1958 attended by Princess Margaret.
Even more exclusive is the couture show at Dior
HQ in Paris, attended by the super-wealthy. There is a look back on the history of the
empire following Christian Dior’s death in 1957, just 10 years after he founded it. Next week, part two looks at the new reign of Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s first female creative director.
For more fashionista fun, before Inside Dior, there’s
Inside British Vogue (Vibe, Sky 006, Sunday, 8.30pm), which spends a year at the magazine leading up to its centenary issue.
