One Strange Rock (National Geographic, Sky 072, Anzac

Day, 7.30pm) may be the most beautiful natural history series ever filmed, even if it is science for a generation with an attention deficit.

Will Smith presents the 10-part series, which looks at how life survives on our tiny planet, or as Smith puts it, “the weird connection­s, the nearmisses, the lucky breaks that built our amazing world”.

Its executive producers include film-maker Darren Aronofsky and Jane Root, a former controller of the BBC. Aronofsky’s influence is evident in the slo-mo close-ups,
