ON THE CARDS

Both House of Cards and The Night Manager were highclass drama, and I hope there is at least one more of each series yet to be aired in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Kevin Spacey won’t be playing a starring role in House of Cards, but I presume another actor will fill this void. Tom Hiddleston was unforgettable in The Night Manager, as was Hugh Laurie as the bad guy.

Brian Collins (Aro Valley, Wellington)

Talkback responds: Production of the sixth and final season of House of Cards was halted last year because of sexual assault allegations against star Kevin Spacey. However, it resumed in January with Robin Wright, as Claire Underwood, in the lead role. Netflix has said it will return in “the fall”, which means our spring. As for The Night Manager, director Susanne Bier has revealed that scripts for a second season are

“slowly being developed”.

When will we see a green dot in your listings pages? I thought Endeavour (Prime) was new, but disappointedly, it is a repeat.

No news of Doctor Who or Vera or any new interesting dramas from the UK?

Diana Mickell (Blenheim)

Talkback responds: Season four of Endeavour was

new to Prime, although it had screened before on Vibe. Prime tells us that it will be premiering season five. The new season of Doctor Who, starring Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor, is set to start in the UK in October.

Seasons one to seven of

Vera are going to screen on Vibe (Sky 006) from July 31; no date has yet been set for season eight.

There are a number of UK dramas available on TVNZ OnDemand, including Killing Eve, Come Home, The Driver, The Last Post, The State and The Split. Canadian drama series Forgive Me might also be worth a look.

SPIN CYCLE

Why did NZ On Air give funds to The Spinoff TV (Three, Friday, 9.45pm)? It was so amateurish and the liberal comedy contained rehashed jokes out of the washing machine from 10 years ago.

A real chance for someone else who didn’t receive funds because of this error by NZ on Air.

Simon Huggett (Franklin) CORO CYNICS

I would like to put in a word for all the people who would not dream of watching Coronation Street. We would be happy if it was never mentioned again in Talkback.

Ted Cornell (Waikanae)
