New Zealand Surfing - - Introducing -

The original super grom! The name Motu Mata a was heard around the country’s lineups well before he was seen. Motz as he became known, had the attention of the country when he appeared on the cover of NZ Surf Mag as a 15 year old. Two years later at the 1992 National Champs in Gisborne Motu went on to create history by becoming the first surfer to win both the Junior and Open title at the same championships, he was also at the time our youngest champion. Motz went on to compete on the Pro- Junior Series across the Tasman where he beat the then talk of the surfing world Kelly Slater in a heat at Bells. Motz continued to surf the NZ contest circuit always being a threat at the business end of competition.
