New UD coming
A MORE POWERFUL UD TRUCKS FLAGSHIP Quon model is scheduled to go on the road in New Zealand early next year.
e early arrival of the stylish new Quon was announced at the Brisbane Truck Show, just a few weeks after its launch in Japan.
And yes, there is an 8x4 version of the new model….and the Quon does come with up to 460-horsepower/343kW – bringing some relief to UD fans who’ve been crying out for more than the current 420hp/308kW maximum rating for NZ (and Australia).
In the make’s rst full update of its premium heavy-duty model in 13 years, designers have focused on ve “essential areas that drive smart logistics: Driveability, fuel e ciency and respect for the environment, safety, productivity and uptime.”
UD Trucks says that the 420hp and 460hp 6x4s and the lowerpowered 8x4 – each running UD’s ESCOT-V1 AMT – will be launched on the NZ market late this year, or early next year. e 460hp 8x4 is not scheduled to make it here until late next year.
UD Trucks NZ manager John Gerbich says: “Our customers have been wanting more horsepower than what we’ve got – and 460...it’s not going to suit everyone, but it’ll suit the majority of our customer base.
“ere are customers that we’ve lost because we didn’t have the horsepower – and hopefully we’ll regain them back.”
UD hasn’t had an 8x4 in NZ for two years so its return will “put us back there” in a format that Gerbich says accounts for around 40% of the market.
