DOES YOUR INTENTION TRANSLATE TO YOUR AUDIENCE?

-

You’re married now, but what about engagement? Make eye contact as much as possible with your loved ones, almost as if you’re speaking to each of them personally, as that will help them engage with you.

If you’re referring to notes, flick your eyes back up as much as you can. (This helps avoid awful photos of you with what looks like your eyes closed and your mouth open.)

What’s the plan in case of the dreaded stuffup? When in doubt or scared to the point of paralysis – when all the practice flies out the window – simply give a big, beaming smile. Don’t be afraid to demonstrate a little emotion, express your nerves openly or let your guests know you’re way outside your comfort zone in speaking. Tell them it’s reassuring to be surrounded by so much love and support and that you and your partner couldn’t be where you are if it weren’t for the part each of them played in your lives. A little vulnerability is charming, especially when you’re celebrating one of the happiest days of your life.

Remember – you don’t have to try to be funny. Unless you’re super confident or a naturally humorous person, keep it simple and speak from the heart. Everyone is there because they love and support you and want to be a part of your special day.
