ARE YOU IN THE MOMENT?
The day will fly by quicker than the blink of an eyelash extension. How can you enjoy the moments if you’re so nervous you’re not breathing properly? Deep breathing is important for calming the craziness of our minds. Before your big day, do yourself a favour and try some guided meditations; beneficial for those of us who struggle to shut our minds up. There are more than 60 great shorter guided meditations on YouTube called ‘Release Your Wings’. Choose a topic that resonates with you and take that precious four to six minutes to gently hush your mind. Your body and soul will thank you for it too.
If you find yourself getting overwhelmed on the big day, remember that above all else, gratitude is the best attitude. Being thankful for where you’re at right now – especially on a day as monumental as your wedding – is humbling, and reminds us how lucky we are to even be in this place and space, surrounded by people who love us.
And if something goes wrong on the day? Who else knows and really, do they care? Put things into perspective and know there’s only so much you can control. What will be, will be and no one will be judging you.
If you’re serious about speaking confidently, you can book a voice and acting coach (it’s an invaluable life skill) – join Toastmasters (toastmasters.org.nz) or watch TedX talks (ted. com). Most importantly, remember that this is the beginning of the next chapter of your life, write it any way you want.
