“We noticed a gap in the market for a new player to offer a fresh approach to style, attitude and the types of wedding packages on offer,” explains Kevin Townsend, one of Swanson venue Tui Hills’ directors.
For Waitakere Estate, it was a matter of demand. “We entered into the wedding market following the request of a number of people to hold their wedding at the hotel,” says managing director Reg Nevill-Jackson.
There’s no doubt the trend towards small intimate nuptials has boomed big. For Papakura’s newest wedding property, Sequoia Lake House, the convenience of a stress-free, secluded environment surrounded by nature will appeal to many.
The Glasshouse, an industrial chic space in Auckland hotspot Morningside, has already hosted a handful of successful events, with general manager Jayne Biddick saying, “We wanted to create an urban oasis that felt like you weren’t in the middle of the city. A space that could work for both ceremony and receptions.”
