What not to take:
While oral medications, such as Accutane (the prescription tablet form of high- dose Vitamin A), can be highly effective, they also dry out your skin and can have potential serious side effects, such as depression, anxiety and birth defects, so should ideally be seen as a ‘ last resort’. Secondly, antibiotics such as doxycycline and minocycline are often prescribed by GPs and dermatologists looking for a ‘quick fix’, and can be helpful, although there are now concerns about prescribing antibiotics, as the incidence of serious bugs that are resistant to antibiotics is rising.
