THERE’S NO HOLDING BACK WHEN THIS SINGER’S ON STAGE
Singer Adele’s ring of truth
In a world where many celebrities receive intensive media coaching so they don’t say anything they shouldn’t, pop star Adele is a breath of fresh air.
The straight-talking Grammy winner has been delighting crowds with her forthright chat during her current tour of Australia, where she’s playing a series of concerts before heading to New Zealand later this month.
After years of staying quiet about the status of her relationship with charity boss Simon Konecki (42), the father of her son Angelo (4), Adele admitted during a show in Perth that the pair have tied the knot. “I’m married now,” she said. And usually notoriously private about her son, the Hello singer revealed she’d cancelled a planned fireworks display at the concert after falling debris from the pyrotechnics got in Angelo’s eye during a rehearsal.
“He was very upset, so I got rid of the fireworks.”
Adele (28), who has never toured Down Under before and is performing in stadiums for the first time, admitted during her first Aussie show that she was nervous.
“Oh, my God, there are so many of you,” she told the 65,000-strong crowd. “Forgive my sweaty face, I’m hot and nervous. My make-up’s going to slide off at some point. God, at the start I was sh***ing myself. I couldn’t hear a thing.”
Later on, she cheerfully announced, “The weight is going to fall off of me on this tour. The sweat is dripping down my thighs.”
She also had a good-natured go at social media trolls who criticised the green gown she wore to the Grammys.
“Everyone said I looked like Fiona from Shrek,” she chuckled. “They did!”
She then went on tell the audience, “They can say what they want. I don’t f***ing care. It was Givenchy Couture!”
And she talked openly about how hard she had to work to get into the dress. “I worked out. Obviously I’m a large lady and I like eating food very much, but I was working out twice a day to fit into that Givenchy dress because it was quite tight.”
Adele is performing three sell-out concerts at Auckland’s Mt Smart Stadium on March 23, 25 and 26.
