Dear Wendyl,

I often get earache when I walk along the beach or have the window open in the car. It’s a dull ache, which can last for days. Do you have any natural remedies I could try? Hoping you can help,

Juliet

Dear Juliet,

Most earaches will respond to warm olive oil. Place 1 tsp olive oil in an egg cup, then add about four drops of lavender essential oil. Put the egg cup in a small bowl to which you have added about 2cm boiling water (this will gently heat the oil for you). When it is nice and hot, get a cotton wool ball, dip it in the oil and give it a squeeze before putting it in your ear. Leave until the cotton wool ball goes cold, then repeat. You will find the ache disappears quite quickly due to the heat. If your earache persists, do get it checked by your doctor in case there is an infection.
