BAUER BEST IN BEAUTY
In association with Farmers, Bauer Media last week held its sixth annual Bauer Best in Beauty Awards, where the beauty editors from your favourite magazines put our must-have skin, body, make-up and hair products to the vote – and you decided which were best. More than 50 awards were given out. Here’s my selection and why I think they’re so worthy.
BEST FACE OIL
1 Trilogy Rosehip Oil Light Blend, $42.99.
I’m a big fan of face oils but I know some women find them too heavy, especially if they’re having hot flushes. This one is loaded with essential fatty acids to give a youthful glow without feeling greasy.
BEST FOUNDATION
2 Shiseido Synchro Skin Lasting Liquid Foundation SPF20, $69.
Neither too matte nor too dewy, I love the satin finish of this complexion perfector.
With a serum-like texture, it blends perfectly into the skin and stays put without looking heavy.
BEST HOME HAIR COLOUR
3 L’Oréal Paris Excellence Crème Triple Care Colour, $26.
More than just a way to keep hair looking fresh, this has keratin to strengthen, ceramides to smooth and collagen to replenish. Plus, the comb applicator makes applying it a breeze. It’s one of the most natural colour ranges around.
BEST NIGHT CREAM
4 L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Filler [HA] Intensive Replumping Night, $44.99.
You can feel this sumptuously textured night cream almost cushioning your skin as your head hits the pillow, but the real magic is the hyaluronic acid plumping out your wrinkles while you’re sleeping. Layer it over the matching serum and wake up to hydrated skin. BEST INNOVATION
5 Prevage City Smart Broad Spectrum SPF50 Hydrating Shield, $110.
When this launched last year, we were only just beginning to understand the effect that pollution has on our skin. But this anti-ager doesn’t just protect your skin from toxins. A hefty dose of minerals provides broad-spectrum protection from the sun, plus it makes skin look younger and brighter. I don’t go a day without wearing it.
BEST CONCEALER
6 Estée Lauder Double Wear Waterproof All Day Concealer, $56.
Oil-free, waterproof, sweatproof, humidity-proof and transfer-resistant – concealers don’t get much better than this and it has just the right consistency for use under the eye area without fear of looking cakey. A little goes a long way.
BEST EYE CREAM
7 Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Eye Cream, $39.99.
Don’t let the bargain price of this winning eye cream fool you. It uses gold-standard anti-ageing ingredient retinol to fade the look of crow’s feet and brighten the under-eye area. The lightweight texture means it’s easily patted into the skin and absorbed in seconds.
BEST BLUSH
8 Revlon InstaBlush, $30.
For any women out there who think they can’t apply blush – this is the one for you. The formula is incredibly sheer and easy to blend. It really is as simple as swiping it along your cheekbones and rubbing it in with your fingertips. You’ll be rewarded with a perfectly natural-looking, pretty flush.
