• Women who jog for 30 minutes a day, five days a week, can extend their lives by as much as nine years. Researcher­s in the US have found that regular exercise can slow down cell ageing if it’s intensive enough. Men need to do 40 minutes a day to see the same benefits.

• A simple blood test may be able to predict whether women have an increased chance of having a stroke. Scientists at Harvard University have found that those with elevated levels of a certain protein are 56% more likely to have a stroke.
