TEARS WILL FLOW AS FANS PREPARE TO FAREWELL A MUCH-LOVED SERIES

-

It’s been 12 epic years of mystery, death and catching criminals, but this week marks the beginning of the end for Bones as the last season hits our screens.

Emily Deschanel was a relative unknown in Hollywood before she scored her role as the quirky forensic anthropologist Temperance “Bones” Brennan. And after more than a decade in the role, Emily says realising the show was over had taken a while to sink in. She has yet to accept any new job offers.

“It was a very slow process filming the last episodes,” says the 40-year-old mum-of-two. “But that doesn’t prepare you for the last moment, which was very emotional for me. You could follow the trail of tears to where I was! It’s the end of an era in our lives and for the people who watched.”

The first episode also marks

Emily’s directorial debut. “My heart was definitely beating a little faster as this was the first time I directed, but I was excited!” she tells.

The new position had its perks too. “I’m always trying to boss my co-star David Boreanaz around, but I had the official okay to do it this time,” she laughs.

Jokes aside, she says it will be a tearful goodbye when those final minutes of the last episode air.

“It’s rare as an actor to work on something for so long and have a character evolve so much,” says Emily.

“And to be able to play that character through all of those changes was amazing. With a film, you only have an hour and a half or two hours to explore a character. We had 246 hours – that was really special.”
