Absolutely BONKERS

YOU’LL EITHER LAUGH OUT LOUD OR GROAN IN PAIN

-

This novel amounts to an extraordinary mash up of every best-selling trend in fiction over the past few years.

There’s raunchy sex like Fifty Shades of Grey. There’s an evil heroine as in Gone Girl. There are designer clothes, exotic locations, money, Mafia, murder, flashy cars and lots of shoes.

The only thing that appears to be missing is a vampire but this is the first of a trilogy so I guess there’s still time.

I veered between thinking it was total drivel to laughing until I cried. Bits of it were so hysterical, I read them aloud to my friends. And then I discovered that debut author Chloé Esposito scored millions for this and the next two books ( Bad and Dangerous to Know), has sold the film rights to the people who made the Fifty Shades movies and is being heralded as publishing’s hot new property.

So is Mad worth reading? Well, if you don’t enjoy sex and swearing then absolutely don’t bother because there’ll be something to offend on pretty much every page. But if you’re seeking a sun-lounger read that redefines the word shallow and is as entertaining as it is far-fetched, then that is exactly what you’ll get.

Alvina Knightly is a selfish slob who blames everyone but herself for the fact she’s failing in life. Meanwhile, her identical twin Beth is thinner, richer and living a glamorous life in Sicily with the man Alvie thinks should have been hers.

Alvie has been refusing her sister’s invitations to go and stay in her luxury villa, but then gets fired from her crappy job and thrown out of her slum of a flat so really doesn’t have any other options.

In beautiful Taormina, Alvie discovers that Beth needs something from her. Everything is not what it seems in her life and she wants her twin to pretend to be her for a few hours so she can escape. Beth winds up dead and Alvie continues impersonating her, putting herself in terrible danger in the process.

You’re either going to find this novel totally uncouth or completely unputdownable.

You certainly won’t be bored by it! As the title promises, it is absolutely bonkers.
