The beauty ideal of this era was to greet hubby at the end of the day without a hair out of place. Impeccably polished ‘dos were teased and sculpted, while flawless complexions were off-set by intensely coloured lips, and lashings of eyeliner and mascara.
There were two major influences on fashion in the ’50s, the first was Christian Dior’s “New Look” (pictured left), the other was the Queen’s tour of New Zealand. The decade introduced us to full skirts, narrow waists and a return to a feminine silhouette.
