The 1960s began with English fashion stepping into the limelight once again. The decade began with conservative suiting but that was quickly overtaken once London’s Carnaby St took off. English model Jean Shrimpton (right) brought the scandalous-at-the-time miniskirt Down Under when she visited Australia.
Rail thin was in and a move out of the domestic ideal saw many women opt for more practical, often shorter hairstyles. Eyes were boldly lined and false lashes or mascara applied to look doll-like. Lips went much lighter.
