FOR MODERN FAIRYTALES

Magic and folklore are woven into Alice Hoffman’s vibrant novels. But they’re also about more everyday things – love, friendship, heartbreak – and the emotions they describe are authentic even if the stories themselves are whimsical and sometimes far-fetched. I got lost in her last release, Faithful, a comingof-age tale about what happens to the popular girl in school after her life goes very wrong. And I can’t wait to turn the first page of her new novel, The Rules of Magic. You never know quite what to expect from one of her books but they are always terrific reads.
