Renee Wright’s homemade Christmas

-

1 News weather presenter Who decorated the tree this year?

Myself and my children Leo, Gigi, Arabella and Rosie, and Lavender the pug. Well, Arabella sat in the box of decorations and threw them around the lounge while Rosie tried to eat them. But all three kids managed to put at least one decoration on the tree.

Do you always keep the same decorations or change them?

I keep the base the same and then normally add new decorations each year.

Is there anything deeply meaningful on the tree?

Gigi’s handmade decoration. It’s a laminated photo of her taken at kindergarten when she made Poppy the Troll out of feathers. I love it!

Also, we write a wee story about the highlights of our year and put it in the box we store our decorations in. It’s always nice to look back.

How does your tree today differ from the one you had as a child?

Mum would change our trees every year. She is a Christmas junkie. It’s where I get it from. Our most memorable was an all-white Christmas tree covered in glitter strawberries and other

matching red ornaments.

What’s on top of your tree?

A bow, a large artificial flower and a white peacock.

Where do you stand on the real/fake tree argument?

I tried to do real one year, then we had an army of ants arrive for Christmas. I do artificial with pinescented candles now!

If you could have a dream Christmas tree, with money being no object, what would it look like?

I know exactly what it would look like in my head. It would be huge with themed ornaments, plus the kids’ own individually chosen ornament and it would be covered in lots of lights and candy canes. I always have to have candy canes on the tree. They are my favourite, so I normally have to leave them until the last possible moment, otherwise I’ll eat them at pace.
