What Meghan and Harry want

FANS WARMED TO THE LOVING COUPLE IN THE SCOTTISH CAPITAL

-

Prince Harry might be fifth in line to the throne, but he was forced to tell a 90cm-tall pony who was boss in Edinburgh last week.

The prince and his fiancée Meghan Markle were on an official visit to Scotland when they were introduced to a small Shetland pony with a big name, Corporal Cruachan IV.

The pony is the mascot of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, but his regimental training didn’t stop him from trying to nip at Harry as he went in for a pat.

Meghan (36) couldn’t help but giggle as the 33-year-old prince exclaimed, “Hey!” but the pony looked unfazed. It turns out he’s used to playing fast and loose with royals. When the Queen visited Scotland last year, the same pony took a bite out of a bouquet of flowers she was holding.

Their trip to Scotland is Harry and Meghan’s fourth official engagement since announcing their engagement in November.

Excited fans braved the cold, wet conditions to meet the couple as they arrived at the esplanade in front of the iconic Edinburgh Castle.

Once again, Meghan wore pants, this time a pair of stylish trousers by US designers Veronica Beard. But it was her $3800 Burberry coat that drew the most attention. Royal commentators say it was a thoughtful nod to a tartan dress, featuring a lace collar and sleeves with a pleated skirt, which Harry’s mother Diana, Princess of Wales, wore to the Highland Games in Bute in 1987.

The relaxed duo chatted to the crowd and took in views across the city before heading off to Social Bite, a social enterprise sandwich shop and café that distributes food and hot drinks to homeless people.

Chatting to the kitchen workers, many of whom had been homeless themselves, Meghan was heard to say that she wanted to work at the café too because it seemed “fun”.

The couple finished their day at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s official residence in Scotland, for a reception to celebrate youth achievements.

In keeping with the lighthearted tone of the day, one of the musical performers of the night cheekily sidled up to Harry and Meghan to say he’d heard that the Shape of You singer Ed Sheeran was playing at their wedding, but if for any reason the red-headed pop star couldn’t make it, he was just a phone call away!
