STRIKING THE RIGHT NOTE

-

Stella McCartney has spoken out about designing the striking white gown Meghan wore for her evening reception, describing the opportunity as “one of the most humbling moments of my career”.

“I’ve made a lot of wedding dresses for a lot of high-profile people – none as high profile as this, obviously − but I’ve always felt very protective over that moment. To be trusted with that moment means a lot to me.”

The silk crepe halter-neck dress was the result of a close collaboration with Meghan, reveals Stella (46). “We worked together. When you come to a wedding, you don’t just go, ‘Here, this is what you’re wearing.’ That person has to feel like a million dollars. They need to feel like they own it.

“It was very much her dress. I felt very proud that she came to me for that part of the wedding and that she got to reflect her in it.”

Stella adds, “The role that she’s taken on is very austere, very serious. I think there’s a great weight that she’s acquired through that and she takes it very seriously. I think it was probably the last moment that she could reflect the other side of her, and the joy and the human within her.

“And I was aware that we had to get the right positioning, the right pace, the right voice – there was a delicate line.”

“Thomas says he made Harry promise to ‘never raise his hand’ to Meghan”
