MY BOOKS

Entertainer Jackie Clarke was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the recent Queen’s Birthday Honours.

My favourite book ever is… A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry. It’s heartbreakingly tragic, but also funny and totally uplifting when its bleakness should have you on the floor in a puddle of tears, and that’s no mean feat.

My book of the moment is… I’m currently re-reading Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood. I decided to get my Atwood back on after watching The Handmaid’s Tale and Alias Grace on TV. I wanted to remind myself what a great novel can do that the screen can’t and that’s really live inside a character’s head. I’m loving it. Go the novel!
