Congratulations are in order for athlete Sonny Bill Williams! The All Black midfielder and his wife Alana (24) welcomed their third child and first son, Zaid, two weeks ago. Sonny Bill celebrated his wee man’s arrival with an “aqeeqah”, an Islamic tradition where an animal such as a sheep or goat is sacrificed, with its meat given to the poor.

The rugby star, who also has two daughters Imaan and Aisha, posted a picture of the special moment to his Instagram account, captioning the photo ‘Our son Zaid’s aqeeqah [birth ceremony] – I honestly can’t describe the joy that I feel when I look at my fanau [sic]. What a blessing it is to have three healthy children.”

Sonny Bill (32) went on to pay tribute to his wife of five years, writing, “Also want to acknowledge my beautiful wife Alana. The way you hold down this family and look after all of us makes me so proud and inspires me.”

The former league star had previously announced his son’s birth on social media with a heart-warming photo of Zaid’s hand in his.

“Asalamualakium [peace be unto you] son – mummy, daddy and your sisters love you so much,” the proud dad wrote.

Zaid means “to prosper” in Arabic – and if his dad is anything to go by, the wee man will be brilliant at any sport. Congrats to the happy family!
