FROM THE EDITOR
Everyone has a favourite royal. Whether you appreciate the glamour of young duchesses Catherine and Meghan, admire the down-to-earth nature of Zara Tindall and her delightfully rambunctious daughter Mia, or you simply adore the dedication and pragmatism of Her Majesty, there’s a royal for you.
But it’s in this instance where I feel a little sorry for Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie. They’ve never had the easiest road when it comes to courting the love of the public. Whether it’s been riding out their mother’s many scandals or defending questionable fashion choices, they’ve somehow not managed to endear themselves to their people quite as well as cousins Prince William and Prince Harry.
Even Eugenie’s wedding has thrown up PR curveball after PR curveball – the large guest list, a kerfuffle over television rights and, of course, the threat of her own grandfather boycotting her special day thanks to a decades-old grudge.
But it’s almost time for
Eugenie to have her moment, and I for one hope the ninth-inline to the throne is able to celebrate her wedding exactly as she sees fit. Every bride deserves to feel like a princess on their big day – even real princesses! – and no matter your opinion of Fergie’s girls, the upcoming wedding at Windsor is another fantastic opportunity to see the royals together, happy and glorious.
It will surely cap off a bumper year for the Queen, who will no doubt look back and view this as one of the happiest of her reign, with two grandkids married and the arrival of her sixth and seventh great-grandchildren. Bring on October 12!
Have a great week.
