GLYCOL IC ACID

-

Glycolic acid can be found naturally in sugar, as well as being produced synthetically. Its small molecular size means it can easily penetrate our top layers of built-up skin to soften discolouration and generally speed up the skin’s renewal process. Using it regularly can also increase hydration levels in the skin, and, over time, help the skin to become firmer by stimulating your own collagen.

WHERE YOU’LL FIND IT

Dr LeWinn’s Revers a derm Glycolic Cleanser, $39.99. A hefty dose of glycolic acid in this grunty cleanser will quickly bring back your glow. Massage it over your face and neck with wet hands and leave on for a couple of minutes to gobble up those dead skin cells, before rinsing away. ALPHA-H Liquid Gold, $59.95. Every alternate night, soak a cotton pad in this magic liquid and swipe it over your face, neck and décolleté as you would a toner. Follow with your regular serum and/or moisturiser, or wear it alone for a more concentrated effect. Murad Rapid Resurfacing Peel, $89 (for 16). These individual towelettes are soaked in glycolic acid, vitamins and licorice root to brighten and smooth any skin type. Once you’ve done your face and décolleté, use on the backs of hands, elbows or anywhere you want smoother skin. Use one to three times a week.

Natio Wrinkle Defence Cream, $19.95. Oils such as rosehip and sweet almond join glycolic acid in this daily moisturiser to regain skin suppleness.

It’s not as intensive as the previous options, but is a lovely everyday option nevertheless.
