Hobsonville bins not delivered

- STAFF REPORTERS

Many new homes in Hobsonville have missed out on their recycle bins due to council using old data for its delivery list.

More than 200,000 households in the north and west of Auckland have been moved to a 240-litre recycle bin system bringing them in line with the rest of the region.

But Hobsonville’s growing residential subdivisions have proved a problem with hundreds of residences missing out due to their properties being rated as vacant space.

Hobsonville Point resident Tim Clark said he had gone without a recycling collection for three weeks after he didn’t get a new bin.

He asked Auckland Council for a new bin on July 5 which was received nine days later.

‘‘Our immediate neighbours have theirs but it looks like the rest of the street are missing theirs still.’’

Auckland Council waste planning manager Parul Sood says the majority of calls council is receiving for non-delivery is for properties that were classified as vacant land, such as newly built properties that did not exist when the rateable information was provided to contractors in November 2015.

‘‘In hindsight, this data should have been refreshed closer to the service being rolled out, and we will take this learning on board for future roll outs.’’
