Chill and decoupe in Massey

Experience the magic of paper art at a local monthly workshop.

-

It’s not so much about the decoupage as it is about the peace.

Massey resident LynnWalters has been running monthly decoupage workshops at her studio ‘The Decoupage Shed’ for the past year.

She says it’s not so much about the art, as sharing her shed with others.

‘‘When you do art, it takes you to a different place - it’s a good [head] space to get into,’’ she says.

‘‘Not everybody has a space to do that.’’

Walters began decoupage around two years ago, when she started painting old watering cans with chalk paint.

Since then, she’s moved onto ukeleles, as well as using other materials such as paper napkins.

At the workshop, Walters says participants can bring their own objects to decoupage, or they can buy an object at the studio.

The word decoupage comes from the French verb ’de´couper’, meaning to cut out or cut from something.

Items used in decoupage include photographs, photocopied material and fabric.

Recently Walters has also decided to have optional themes for her workshops.

The August workshop theme is ‘chocolate boxes’, and she is planning a ‘canvas shoes’ themed event for September.

Email lynnwmusic@gmail.com to register or see Facebook ‘The Decoupage Shed’. Workshop is $25, additional charge for materials.

?? ?? Decoupage is the art of decorating objects using torn or cut-out paper, and then applying varnish for a seamless finish.
