The cult classic returns for its only New Zealand shows.

-

It’s time to do the Time Warp again.

The beloved musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show is heading to Hamilton, and crowds are expected to flock across the country to relish the cult classic.

‘‘The Hamilton Operatic Society is fortunate enough to be the only musical theatre society in the whole of New Zealand with rights to perform Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror show,’’ chairperson Fiona Bradley says.

‘‘If New Zealanders want to see this internationally acclaimed musical performed in our very own country, this is their chance.’’

The show’s author and original film cast member Richard O’Brien, who is also patron of the Hamilton Operatic Society, has been involved with the project.

‘‘We’re privileged to have had Richard himself, the mastermind behind this gothic-themed, schlockhorror fantasy, come alongside us as we prepare to bring this show to the stage,’’ Bradley said.

‘‘He has worked closely with director David Sidwell, tweaked the script to reflect the original, attended the read-through with the cast, and will be in attendance come show-time.’’

The show features 13 cast members from around New Zealand, and is directed by Waikato director David Sidwell.

‘‘Our stunning cast, band and unique set - not to mention the support of the writer himself - are geared to make this a truly memorable show.

‘‘We are confident that audiences from around the country won’t be disappointed,’’ Bradley says.

The season will premiere at Clarence St Theatre on October 6 and runs for four weeks.
