New food hub for Massey

- AMY BAKER

The NorthWest Shopping Centre wants to create a dining and community hub for Massey residents.

From October 6, the mall will be opening up nine new eateries on the square in Maki Street.

Stride Property centre manager Simone van Delft says the Massey area has typically been ‘‘under-served’’ in terms of restaurants.

‘‘If you live in Massey, you either need to go to New Lynn or you go to Albany, or you could venture out to Ponsonby or maybe town,’’ she says.

‘‘In terms of convenience and having something nice locally, that hasn’t been there before.’’

Van Delft says even residents from Kumeu and Helensville who would normally go to Albany to eat, are interested in coming to Massey to dine. New restaurants on the square include Casablanca, Wagamama, Nandos, Cleaver & Co, and Tomi Ro.

NorthWest will also be hosting open air movies in the square on Friday nights until February.

To celebrate the square’s opening, NorthWest is hosting an outdoor dining experience ‘Dining in the Square’ on October 13.

Dinner includes a seven course meal, co-hosted by celebrity chef Michael Van de Elzen.

NorthWest has a double pass to give away to a North Harbour News reader. Write to amy.baker@fairfaxmedia.co.nz to go in the draw. Competition closes October 9.
