Student’s art in professional show
At 17, Yilan Sun is already brushing shoulders with professional artists.
The Kristin School student has been chosen to display her work at the school’s art show and sale.
More than 150 pieces from almost 60 artists will be on display at the show. Sun’s work was chosen for the exhibition from an earlier school exhibition.
‘‘I feel really honoured and I’m really thankful for this opportunity because this is a professional exhibition,’’ Sun says.
Sun is inspired by nature and how humans interact with it.
‘‘It’s a societal problem that we seem to put ourselves above nature. Instead of working with nature we oppose it.’’
All of the artworks will be for sale at the exhibition and Sun says while she’d be happy if her piece sold, it’s exciting either way.
The year 13 student wants to study design once she leaves school and dreams of attending Rhode Island School of Design.
Sun says she wants to thanks the teachers who’ve helped her develop a technique through which she can express her ideas.
The show opened with a gala night on October 25 and will be open to the public from 8am till 3pm on October 27 and 28, and from 10am till 2pm on October 29.
Exhibition proceeds go towards a scholarship for students who might not otherwise be able to attend the school.
