Affordable solutions for hearing loss

-

Hearing loss is a common problem as we age, and because it’s usually gradual it’s often ignored.

But just as smartphones have become slimline and much more affordable, so have modern hearing aids.

Advances in technology mean there are a range of options available, and audiologist Dr Teresa Burns, of A1 Hearing’s North Shore Clinic, says they are both discreet and incredibly effective.

Despite being a common problem, many sufferers delay seeking help. But if you’ve noticed your hearing diminishing, Teresa advises that the earlier you have it checked the better, even if you think the problem is only minor.

‘‘The gradual nature of most hearing loss makes it easy to ignore and many people also believe that hearing aids won’t be within their budget,’’ Teresa says.

A1 Hearing is a family-owned audiology practice which has been operating for 15 years in Papatoetoe. Its North Shore clinic, opened in 2015, offers an affordable solution to hearing problems.

A1 Hearing is currently running special pricing, with hearing aids starting from just $500 each (conditions apply), they’re not as expensive as many people might think. There have also been several new ranges of hearing aids in the affordable categories incorporating even better technology.

‘‘It’s amazing what you can get in the more affordable ranges now – technology, features and smaller sizes that previously would have been only in the top of the range pricing is now available in the lower priced ranges too,’’ Teresa says.

Teresa is a fully-qualified audiologist with more than 20 years experience, who not only has a Masters in Audiology, but also completed her Doctorate in Audiology in 2015.

‘‘We also know that hearing well helps keep you healthy, active and involved with family, friends and community. There are studies that show wearing hearing aids also help keep your brain active as you age,’’ Teresa says.

A1 Hearing is currently offering free one hour comprehensive audiological assessments till the end of November. ACC, War Pensions and Hearing Aid Subsidy services available.

A1 Hearing’s North Shore clinic is within Shore Care Accident & Emergency, 948 East Coast Rd, Northcross. Free parking on-site, bus nearby.
