NEW POLICE OFFICERS

An announceme­nt to boost police staff numbers by 236 over the next four years, includes 73 for the Waitemata district. The Waitemata District, which includes the North Shore, will gain 17 new officers in the first year. The first intake of new recruits is in July and they’ll be in action by November. This is part of a $388 million investment in police announced by the Prime Minister earlier this year. It will see an increase of 880 frontline officers across the country in four years.
