Auckland awards for Shore cricketers

It was a bumper year for Takapuna District Cricket Club, and the club capped off the season with awards for teams and individual­s at the Auckland Cricket Awards.

Takapuna Pirates’ Elliot Herd was named as club cricketer of the year. Despite a broken thumb, Herd was able to achieve a substantia­l wicket haul, with 67 dismissals.

Herd was described by his coach, Shoruban Pasupati, as achieving

‘‘some superhuman feats when required’’ this season.

The Takapuna Ponies coach, Chris Reid, was named as club coach of the year, for his role with the title-winning women’s premier team.

Takapuna’s season of dominance culminated in the club receiving the Simmonds and Osborne Shield for Club of the Year.

North Shore Cricket Club’s Graeme Beghin picked up the Laurie Schnauer Cup for players’ player of the year. Beghin was player/coach for the premier men’s side this season.

Rosmini College’s Ryan Harrison was named as secondary school boys players’ player of the year. Birkenhead Cricket Club’s Denise Montgomery received the Carson Cup in recognitio­n of her efforts as a volunteer.
