More affordable homes needed

Around 500 new homes would be also going in at Massey.

New Zealand First candidate Jane Johnston said the party believes home ownership is the ‘‘right of every New Zealand family’’. Johnston said the intention was also to build more state homes, faster, and for a ‘‘wider variety of circumstan­ces’’.

Green party candidate James Goodhue said the party would ensure all rental properties be ’’sufficient­ly insulated, ventilated

‘‘That’s why the Green party would amend rental legislatio­n to provide families with greater security of tenure,’’ he said.

An also advocated for a healthy homes policy to ensure a minimum standard for rentals.

‘‘No one wants to have mushrooms growing out of their carpet!’’ the Labour candidate said.

New Zealand First’s Johnston said housing was a priority for the party.
