More af­ford­able homes needed

Around 500 new homes would be also go­ing in at Massey.

New Zealand First can­di­date Jane John­ston said the party be­lieves home own­er­ship is the ‘‘right of ev­ery New Zealand fam­ily’’. John­ston said the in­ten­tion was also to build more state homes, faster, and for a ‘‘wider va­ri­ety of cir­cum­stances’’.

Green party can­di­date James Good­hue said the party would en­sure all rental prop­er­ties be ’’suf­fi­ciently in­su­lated, ven­ti­lated

‘‘That’s why the Green party would amend rental leg­is­la­tion to pro­vide fam­i­lies with greater se­cu­rity of ten­ure,’’ he said.

An also ad­vo­cated for a healthy homes pol­icy to en­sure a min­i­mum stan­dard for rentals.

‘‘No one wants to have mush­rooms grow­ing out of their car­pet!’’ the Labour can­di­date said.

New Zealand First’s John­ston said hous­ing was a pri­or­ity for the party.


Up­per Har­bour can­di­dates had a range of so­lu­tions, in­clud­ing af­ford­able hous­ing and longer rental ten­ure.
