Upper Harbour motorway changes
Construction of the last link of Auckland’s Western Ring Route has been given the green light.
The Northern Corridor Improvements (NCI) project will create an uninterrupted motorway-to-motorway connection between Albany and Manukau.
The Northern Motorway will be linked to the Upper Harbour Motorway (SH18), bringing the Albany to Massey road into a continuous motorway loop.
It will also extend the Northern Busway from Constellation station to the Albany park-and-ride station and incorporate 5km of offroad shared-use pedestrian/cycle way. A new bus station will also be added at Rosedale.
The project also includes improvements to local intersections; Paul Matthews Rd will be extended with a bridge over the new SH18 motorway, including on and off-ramps to SH18.
The NZTA project is considered a project of national significance and a draft decision granting designation and resource consent has been signed off by an independent board of inquiry this month.
Submitters have until October 29 to review the draft decision and provide feedback before the board of inquiry releases its final decision in November.
NZTA hope to begin construction in 2018 and have work completed by 2022.
