New duo take on House

- AMY BAKER

Albany House is saying hello to two new coordinators.

Since late September, the House now has a house and events manager, as well as a community coordinator.

Each role is part-time.

New house manager, Shona Smith, comes with a background in events and has been the front of house manager for New Zealand Fashion Week since 2000.

Smith said she’s looking forward to getting back to the ‘‘grass roots’’ of working in a community organisation.

Newcomers coordinator Laure Romanetti will continue to run the Newcomers Network, as well as taking on the position of community coordinator.

She said she will continue to organise new activities and meetups as well as reporting and securing funding for the House.

The job share is an ideal situation, especially with Smith’s experience in events, she said.

Romanetti’s bag recycling group Boomerang Bags is also now running twice a week on Monday mornings and Thursday afternoons in light of recent announcements by supermarkets to ban all plastic bags by the end of 2018.

A thanksgiving pot luck dinner for volunteers and participants will be held on December 2.
