Butcher Jacks: making ends meat

-

There’ll always be a traditional family butcher as long as people value friendly, expert and personal service over purely convenience shopping.

Just ask Glenfield and Wairau shoppers – they’ve known their own ‘local hero’, Butcher Jacks for ages.

The Cormack family business has been a household name for many years – renowned for providing the best of New Zealand fresh and smoked meats including award-winning bacon and hams and special recipe sausages, all at family-friendly prices. They know where their meat comes from, and deal only with trusted suppliers and farmers.

Formerly in Glenfield Road, now firmly established in Wairau Junction, Butcher Jacks is owned by John and Jacque Cormack who have raised their family in Glenfield and been closely involved with the community.

They know all about managing a household budget, and how to make meals go further.

There are plenty of casserole, stew and mince options, and always excellent bargains to be had – right now their meaty hind lamb shanks are two for $9.99; while succulent NZ free-farmed boneless pork belly is $11.99 a kilo.

John learned the trade in his father’s butcher shop, and will cut and pack anything to order, large or small. The store is also the perfect place for the time-pressed shopper, with supermarket style cabinets and clearly-marked prices.

If you’re planning a midwinter Christmas celebration, don’t forget that Butcher Jacks holds national titles for its home-baked hams. They also have turkeys in stock, and prime, tender whole fillets of beef.

John’s own recipe sausages win customers from near and far for their flavour and high meat content– from traditional sausages to new flavours and gluten free recipes – also hard to find products like home-made black pudding, or biltong and boerwurst made to traditional South African recipes.

For variety, quality, price, friendly service – and convenience – you’re welcome at Butcher Jacks, 575 Wairau Junction, Wairau Rd Glenfield (behind Chances Sports Bar and facing the main carpark). Open 7 days 7am7pm. Phone 09 444 1207.
