Warning cats worst predator of all
BAIT STATION THE ANSWER
Rats. Here on the Onepoto volcano, we have been ratting for the past 12 years.
We have had dramatic results both with rat numbers and the resulting increase of birds.
I doubt rat traps are the way to go, as facing these dead rats is not fun.
Poison in a locked bait station is the answer for us.
Educating people not to throw out bread and food for rats to feast on, managing compost bins and so on will help.
I must warn you of the worst predator of all. On my walk around Onepoto volcanic rim bush yesterday I observed three cats hunting our wildlife .

PERSONAL AGENDAS
Why on earth do we entertain mini political parties to form over local body elections?
If one genuinely wants to contribute to the interests and well being of fellow community members why don’t they just stand for council?
Clusters of people with likeminded agendas against clusters of other people with other likeminded agendas undermine the integrity of the whole process and surely point towards, in reality, personal agendas.
Aspirations and real motivation are highly questionable under these regimes.
Council meetings lose sight of community interests, and resolutions and decisions become painfully and expensively protracted and unproductive, in whose interests?

CONGRATS OKURA
Congratulations to the Long BayOkura Great Park Society on winning the battle to retain the rural urban boundary. In doing so they have prevented the beautiful Long Bay Regional Park and Okura Bush Scenic Reserve from being buried by the urban sprawl.
The Philistines were at the gates but you fought them off! You’ve set the standard to others seeking to preserve the North Shore from the probing fingers of greedy developers. Well done!

ROSE OVERLOOKED
We have been to many stage plays at the Rose Centre, Belmont, and enjoyed them all. Last night, we had the great good fortune to see Arthur Miller’s All My Sons performed there.
This was great theatre - a fabulous production of a brilliant play. The set was perfect and the each member of the cast outstanding.
Just a pity patronage was down.
Our thanks to all involved. Gavin & Philipa Cockcroft Belmont
