Kathleen Webb is a 64-year-old retiree who lives in Milford. She and her husband, Ray, have two children and two grandchildren.

How long have you lived here and where are you from?

I was born in Bayswater and have lived on the North Shore for all but one year, where I lived in Christchurch.

Describe your neighbourhood.

We live close to Milford Beach and adjacent to Lake Pupuke. It’s a wonderful location where we can enjoy the birds on the lake, especially at this time of the year as it’s breeding season. I’ve just been for a stroll along the beach you can tell why the Hauraki Gulf is a sailor’s paradise.

What is your earliest memory of the Shore? Catching the ferry from Bayswater to the city, and playing on the beach.

What are the greatest advantages to living here?

The closeness to the beach and the lake – and the area is flat which is good for walking.

Where is your favourite North Shore beach and why?

Milford Beach and the walk around the rocks to Takapuna Beach.

Who is the person you admire the most and why?

St Teresa of Calcutta for her work with among the poor, the sick and the homeless.

What do you like least about the Shore and how can we fix it?

Auckland’s traffic congestion especially along Lake Rd and the Esmonde Rd interchange, as well as the Harbour crossing.

Where is the best place to have a meal?

Our Milford restaurants provide lots of variety

‘‘Our Milford restaurants provide lots of variety and all of a sudden Takapuna has come alive with restaurants.’’

and all of a sudden Takapuna has come alive with restaurants.

What are you doing this weekend?

I’ll be walking to Takapuna for a coffee overlooking the beach and water, and also having a nice walk from home to Alzheimers Auckland’s Memory Shop in Lake Rd where I work as a volunteer. We are a great team and it is a pleasure to be able to help such a worthy cause.
