Indoor bowls: Beginners and intermedia­tes welcome. Have fun and make new friends while learning to play in a fully heated and airconditi­oned club rooms. Art group: This small friendly group of artists and crafters enjoy opportunit­ies to participat­e in both individual art projects and/or optional tutored session. After a short winter break the Wednesday Art Group will be resuming fortnightl­y meetings from September 14, at St Anne’s Hall in Browns Bay. Tennis: Northcote Tennis Club Midweek Committee invites men and women of all ages to join the organised casual tennis every Thursday morning from 9.30am to noon. Come and check out the Learn self-defence through the SPEAR system. SPEAR stands for Spontaneou­s Protection Enabling Accelerate­d Response, which is a behaviour researched, closequart­er defence method. Instructor Craig Simpson says because the SPEAR system is ‘‘geneticall­y wired and behavioura­lly inspired’’, anybody can learn.

The introducto­ry course teaches participan­ts the physical, emotional, and psychologi­cal skills, in regards to what happens during a violent encounter.
