Best for bush walks

-

Hannah Samuel lives in Glenfield and works as a retirement village manager. She turns 50 this month

How long have you lived here and where are you from?

Am originally from York, North Yorkshire, England. I have lived in New Zealand 22 years, of which 21 have been in Kaipatiki.

Describe your neighbourhood.

I love Glenfield. It’s a great combination of friendly/urban. People are ‘‘real’’ and very friendly. There’s a huge array of parks and reserves, and we have the best dairy/flower-seller in Auckland at the intersection of Chartwell Avenue and Chivalry Rd.

What is your earliest memory of the Shore? How fabulous it was to be able to tramp for up to two hours in unspoiled Eskdale Bush and yet be just eight minutes walk from home.

What are the greatest advantages to living here?

Glenfield’s got a great everyday shopping mall, brilliant community amenities, eg, swimming pool and leisure centre, the best bush walks on the Shore, is five minutes from the motorway, and just 15 minutes from the CBD off-peak.

Where is your favourite North Shore beach and why?

The dog-walking beach at the end of Kauri Point Domain track between Kendall and Soldiers Bays. It’s a great place for dogs to enjoy splashing around and socialising.

Who is the person you admire the most?

Not a person, a venue - Belmont’s Rose Theatre, it does such a fantastic job bringing community drama and theatre to the local community.

What do you like least about the Shore and

‘‘I love Glenfield. It's a great combination of friendly/ urban. ’’

how can we fix it?

Evening and weekend parking congestion around Netball North Harbour. Would be great to have a multi-storey car park close-by.

Where is the best place to have a meal? Blitza Pizza or Aubergine.

What are you doing this weekend?

Worship at Harbourside Church and a bush walk with my dog in Eskdale Bush.
