Yogi’s new NZ life

-

Jessica Birks, 28, is a yoga teacher who moved to Hauraki from United Kingdom this year

What is your earliest memory of the Shore? It was winter when I arrived and we were looking for houses, it was freezing and we stopped in at Macs bar in Takapuna for a drink, the fire was on and we warmed up next to it, I thought it was crazy people were wearing shorts and I was wrapped up in a scarf, gloves and hat and was shivering.

What are the greatest advantages to living here? Everything you need is on your doorstep, nature, beaches, walks, yoga studios, shops, restaurants, the list is endless. I can’t wait to explore more once the sunshine sets in.

Where is your favourite North Shore beach? Takapuna Beach. It looks picturesque on a sunny day. Looking out across the waters I love to watch people on their jet skis or paddle boards. Lots of dogs are playing with other dogs, families lay on blankets and have picnics, Its a wonderful sight.

Who is the person you admire the most and why? The person I admire the most is my Dad. It may seem cliche to choose someone so close to you who has brought you up but he has given me unconditional love, and taught me how to love. Without this I don’t believe I’d be on the path I’m on today. He’s funny and kind and loved by everyone around him. Ive always known him as a hard worker and he given me and my siblings a very good upbringing, I admire this very much. Now that I’m older and have travelled more of the world I realise how lucky I am.

What are you doing this weekend? On Saturday I’m teaching at 10am, Vinyasa Flow at The I AM Studio and after that I will chill out for the day and catch up on some quality time with my boyfriend Chris. Maybe we will go climbing together or go for a nice walk. On Sunday I’m teaching Vinyasa Flow at 9am and Yin at 4.30pm at The Yoga Corner. My weekends are mostly jam packed with classes at the moment. Check out yogawithjessica.co.uk/services or email hello@yogawithjessica.co.uk.
