Jewel in the crown

-

Jane Cotty is the communication manager for the Navy Museum based in Torpedo Bay, Devonport

How long have you lived here and where are you from?

I’ve been living on the Shore for 15 years - 4 years in Castor Bay and the last 11 in Campbells Bay with my husband, son and an assortment of pets.

Describe your neighbourhood.

Campbells Bay has the best of everything close to great beaches, good schools, shops and sports clubs. The jewel in the crown though has to be Centennial Park maintained by the dedicated Bush Society volunteers.

What is your earliest memory of the Shore? Driving with my parents to Long Bay from central Auckland before the motorway was constructed. It felt like it took the whole day to get there!

What are the greatest advantages to living here?

I think I have the best drive to work in the world. From Campbells Bay to the Navy Museum at Torpedo Bay, it’s just to-die-for sea views for most of the way.

What is your favourite North Shore beach and why?

Castor Bay Beach; great shade, playground, pontoon in the summer and a great walk up to the Rahapara Historic Reserve.

What do you like least about the shore and how can we fix it?

The lack of parking for people who are using park and ride.

Where is the best place to have a meal?

For brunch or lunch can’t go past Stanley’s in Milford on East Coast Rd. For a quick snack, lunch or ice-cream the Torpedo Bay Cafe´ with its playground at the Navy Museum is a great option, and you can check out the Museum for free.

What are you doing this weekend?

Will catch up with friends for a casual meal on Friday night and then Saturday morning its household chores. To round off the weekend I will probably visit my Dad in Mangawhai.
