RUBBISH SPREADING
Your 13 year old correspondent wrote recently about rubbish in the Bushlands Park Reserve and now Troy Landale writes about rubbish on the streets of Albany.
But, the littering problem is not limited to these two areas. It is a problem throughout the North Shore. Try walking down Constellation Drive - the gardens and gutters are full of rubbish. Check out the Southern boundary of the Pupuke Golf Course. I am constantly picking up McDonald’s containers, beer bottles, cans etc etc along our own residential street and would love to catch someone in the act.
This is not the Shore I know and love, it’s a more recent occurrence and one that needs to be sorted now. We all have a responsibility to deal with this problem. If there has been rubbish left outside your residence, please pick it up and dispose of it in the rubbish. Most of it can be recycled.
A few front page articles in the North Shore Times wouldn’t go astray either. The Times isa community paper and this is a community problem. And for those of you who think it’s ok to chuck your rubbish out the car window, don’t. Take it home and dispose of it in an appropriate manner.
Unfortunately, you probably won’t read this letter anyway. Just remember, we only have one planet. Let’s look after it. And yes Auckland Council, you need to empty the rubbish bins more regularly. We pay you to do this and we expect better service. David Kirk

CUT THE CLASS
James Palsey’s article about a quarter of Auckland Council staff flights booked in business class reminds me I wrote a number of years ago to the State Services Commission and the Prime Minister, that with the introduction of Premium Economy seats there was no longer a need for tax payer funded organisations to travel by Business Class.
Apart from an acknowledgment, nothing further happened. Premium Economy seats for long haul flights are excellent value, and there is no need to travel in the opulence of Business Class. Leadership please, Mr Goff - do something. Alec Waugh
