Pest control problems at Shore eateries

- FELICITY REID

Pest control, unsatisfactory cleaning and poor food-handling practices are among the reasons eight North Shore eateries have D grades in Auckland Council’s latest food grades published this week.

All food outlets were required to display a food grade certificate to inform customers of the quality and hygiene standards of the establishment. The food grades started at A and dropped down to E.

Browns Bay’s Pukeko Bakery was the only North Shore eatery in the published list to have an E grade. The bakery was last inspected by council in June, 2017 and has since stopped trading out of the Anzac Rd property. Once council was notified that a business had closed or moved it would be removed from the database.

Complaints could be made to Auckland Council if the public had concerns about cleanliness, rubbish dumped outside, food display or storage, food hygiene practices, a foreign object found in food, smells coming from a food business site, food safety issues and registration or grading certificate not on display.
