Ready and raring to go for Round the Bays

- KENDALL HUTT

Weeks of bear crawls, burpees, lunges and squats have got Chatswood family the All-in Allports where they want to be ready to tackle the 8.4km Ports of Auckland Round the Bays run.

With less than a week to go until the event, billed as the day Auckland runs, the team said they were looking forward to seeing the pain they had endured in training pay off.

‘‘We’ve endured a bit of pain over the last few weeks so I think there’s going to be less pain on the day,’’ David said.

The running club session from week one of training had, in particular, left the team with nightmares.

‘‘I don’t know what it was about it but it just really hurt,’’ Shania said.

‘‘It was really tiring and a lot of running,’’ Brody added.

But after weeks of challenging training, the team’s trainer, Tyler Wallace, agreed the All-in Allports were ready.

‘‘They’ve been doing a lot of hard training. They’ve definitely been putting in the work, not just with me but in their own time. I think they’ll enjoy it and do good as well.’’

Although the team started out five weeks ago with no particular end goal in mind except getting fit, they said they had set goals for completing the event since training.

Husband and wife David and Andrea aimed to complete the 8.4 kilometres in just over an hour by walking and running, while their daughter Shania and her boyfriend Brody HarperMoulton planned on a steady jog.

The team said they intended to start together, but were not sure whether they would all be able to keep up with one another over the duration of the course.

‘‘We’ll start together and see how we go,’’ David said.

‘‘We probably will stay together, but I don’t know about my parents,’’ Shania said.

However things were going to turn out on the day, the team said they were committed to keeping fit after Round the Bays.

‘‘Round the Bays has been good because it’s had to throw us back into working out again. We’ll definitely be keeping fit this time,’’ Shania said.

‘‘We’ll definitely stay fit. We’ve learnt a bit of stuff along the way,’’ David added.

Ports of Auckland Round the Bays will take place on March 4. Visit roundthebays.co.nz for more.
