Feedback sought on local priorities

- STAFF REPORTERS

Auckland Council’s local boards are seeking feedback on the different projects and initiatives each board plans to deliver in the 2018/2019 financial year.

This is the first financial year of each most recent local board plan and the council’s 10-year Budget 2018-2028.

The local boards covering the North Shore have identified different key projects based on feedback they received from the public on their 2017 local board plans, and the boards want to know if the public agree with their chosen priorities.

The council’s ‘‘Have your Say’’ consultation period closes on March 28.

Devonport-Takapuna Local Board

The local board’s key advocacy project for the Long-Term Plan (LTP) was the Lake Rd Improvements project. The board said the project was critical to fixing congestion issues on Lake Rd by improving the road corridor, as well as public transport and walking and cycling infrastructure.

Feedback was wanted on whether residents would support a targeted rate to help fund the project, and how much they would be willing to pay on top of an existing rates bill to assist this project.

Hibiscus and Bays Local Board

Among the priorities for the Bays was implementing the Mairangi Bay Reserves Development Plan projects .

The board also advocated that the Glenvar Rd / East Coast Rd intersection upgrade happen sooner than planned and was included in Auckland Transport’s Regional Land Transport Plan. Kaipa¯ tiki Local Board

The local board advocated to the council’s Governing Body to allocate funding in the 10-year Budget for the redevelopment of Birkenhead War Memorial Park.

The board said the first priority was the replacement of the grandstand, possibly with a shared facility to accommodate multiple community and sporting users, at a cost of $7 million.

Other priorities set out by the board included the redevelopment of central Northcote. Upper Harbour Local Board The top priority for the local board was to secure funding for construction of an indoor, multiuse, multi-sport facility to provide for increasing demand.
