Photographer of year on display
The work of an award-winning photographer is on display after winning three awards in the same competition.
Castor Bay resident Ilan Wittenberg collected two gold awards and a silver award at the 2016 North Shore National Salon.
Wittenberg specialises in portrait photography and has entered the salon five times. He says he’s humbled by the awards.
The judges said his portraits were ‘‘stunning’’ and captured the souls of the subjects.
The North Shore National Salon of Photography has been run by the North Shore Photographic Society since 1995 and aims to promote the art of photography in New Zealand.
The 2016 competition attracted more than 2100 entries from 600 participants from 33 clubs around New Zealand and the world.
Of the award’s seven categories, Wittenberg won gold in the people and street sections and silver in scapes.
With a history in industrial engineering and information technology, Wittenberg became a professional photographer in 2011.
He’s since won national and international awards including 2015 Auckland Photographer of the Year.
The winning photos from each category will be on display at the Mairangi Arts Centre from July 20 till August 7.
