Alcohol ban at St Peter’s Takapuna

- TOM DILLANE

A popular late-night drinking spot outside St Peter’s Anglican Church in Takapuna has been added to alcohol bans for the region.

The large property of 11 Killarney St, Takapuna, consisting of church, vicarage, carpark and kindergarten will now be alcohol-free 24 hours a day.

Also included in the ban is part of The Promenade leading to the bank of Lake Pupuke.

An Auckland Council report provided testimony from Killarney St residents of broken bottles, excessive noise, offensive language, public urination and aggressive behaviour at the site.

‘‘The party started again around 2.30am when it seemed they had to break into one of the cars and then argued loudly with liberal dashing of their usual ‘‘ **** off Bro’’ and what sounded like the Auckland late night aggression we see on the news,’’ one resident reported.

Thursday nights were reported as particularly bad with people parking in the area, pre-loading on drinks and then returning after visiting bars in Takapuna.

Alcohol is banned in public at all times across the Takapuna town centre.
